Ive been shooting DSLR's now for about 6-7 years. I remember going to events with my camera when i first got it and everybody thinking i worked for a newpaper or magazine.

Lately when ive been taking my camera out to places like the Zoo etc ive noticed that everbody is walking around with an SLR now like its in style.

Is it just me or is there really this crazy jump in DSLR users???

Even places like Disneyland are full of dslr users. Little league games, parks, beaches they are everywhere. Usually with a kit lens on.

wait if you ever shoot children and youll get a taste of the PWC's, those parents in green box that give everyone free digital files and think theyre amazing photogs. some are good photogs, but those are usually the ones you wont notice so much.

I'm not sure where you live, but I don't see that so much here. Sure, at places like the zoo or certain events, but for the most part, I don't see a lot of DSLRs.

In fact, when I go out with my 5D, I often end up with people asking me questions about it.

Yep, everyones got one, even me. I always wanted to learn photography but with my wage back when it was film cameras it was a much more expensive hobby than it is now and I just couldn't afford it back then. For me to learn then I would have had to either do a course or buy a book, or several, as well as keeping notes on what settings I had for each shot, then send the film off to be at the mercy of the developers and hope I got some good shots. Now I can see instantly how I've gone and if it's rubbish, just delete delete delete. Photography really is accessable to the masses and I am very happy about that.

They're affordable now. Actually, I get asked if I work for a newspaper whenever I pull out even the 70-200 f4L.

Also, everyone may have them, but can everyone USE them? No. I'm testament to that. :p :(

LMAO bw! not speaking about you, just you're comment in general. im sure if you even bother being on this site learning you're better than the majority of the masses with their slr's.

Why the hell would i be mad???

Just wondering why its become so popular all of a sudden. Probably price as stated above.

Mad? No way. Actually happy since maybe if they sell more, well stop paying so damn much for these L lenses.

In my area of the world, they are still not as popular....but when I toured in Singapore, there were soooo many! And I was told that it was a new "craze" for the GWC crowd to walk around with large tripods (no less) and indeed you saw a huge amount of folks out there with camera mounted tripods walking down the street.
decrease in price is one thing that helped (vis a vis increased disposable income)
but also I am not sure that without this forum and the availability of the knowledge that the internet brings to my fingertips so easily, even i would have tried to get one..... (I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination)

People delude themselves that a better camera will automagically make them a better photog. I got my first dslr so I could get a hotshoe to use radio triggers, I worked out that I could trigger optical slaves on my A570 or whatever it was. It went from there. People still pale in fear of my 1D though, so that's alright.
