Kata 3n1-33?

Anybody out there using the Kata 3n1-33 yet? I have the 3n1-30 and like it, but it's a drag having to use a different bag when I want to bring a laptop along.

Assuming the '33 has about the same functionality/size as the '30, but thought I'd check in before making the purchase (and selling my other bag)

Hi mate, just looking at these two bags and was wondering if I could ask a few questions?

Do you get all the kit in your sig in your bag? How much extra room is left? Would there be enough room to get a load of LEE 6x4 filters in LEE 10filter pouch in there?

Simon, happy to try to help.
I do, in fact, get all that gear in the Kata--that's one of the reasons I love the thing. Probably better to send a pic, but the 100-400 fits attached, which is really nice, and usually I put the 24-105 in the bottom, and the 10-22 and 50mm (in a hard case) above that. I can also get the speedlite in there, either on top of the other lenses with a divider (they include a lot, so several configurations are possible), or on top of the 100-400.

That leaves the entire top compartment for other stuff (blower, cards, filters, etc.), and the 2 side pockets can be used for filters, caps and cards. the only drawback to the top compartment is that the (optional) tripod attachment makes it so that opening the compartment is a bit more tricky.

The ability to sling the bag to either side, and to tuck the straps in is genius, and the waist strap for longer hikes/treks makes a big difference.

I recommend it very highly--as I said, the only thing it can't do is carry my laptop (well, at least not in a separate compartment ), hence my interest in the '33.

i'd like to pick up the 3n1-33 as well. i have the 3n1-30 but wish i had an extra compartment. not so much for a laptop, though. i'd put a light jacket in there, magazine, sketchpad, notes, etc.

if they drop another rebate soon, i may upgrade to the 33

i have both..
33 is about the same as the 30...a little bulkier but that's expected due to the laptop compartment.

i am selling my 3n1-30...if anyone is interested!

what are you asking for your bag shipped conus?

I bought the 3n1 22 for a vacation bag to carry my gear and a 11.3 inch netbook. It rocks. We used in Mexico and I was very impressed with the bag's setup and usability.

I would grab the 3n1 33 if I needed the additional space, but I use my ThinkTank UD60 for my laptop/camera bag.

Since the 33 is a larger version of the 22, I'd suggest it easily. The bag has a great design and provides tons of space.

I'm really after a bag that can hold all my 6x4" Lee filters in the Lee pouch as this takes up a lot of depth. I also need to fit in a Canon 40D, 24-70L, 10-20, 580exII, a pair of pocket wizards, a Lee filter holder and a lot of bits.

Is it also possible to ask why the tripod holder makes it difficult to get in and out of the top of the bag? Is it worth using the tripod holder?

The issue with the tripod holder is that it attaches to the top handle, so if you unzip the bag just a bit to get something out, it is OK, but unzipping it completely makes the tripod lean away from the bag. There's a workaround, but it isn't great: you can simply thread the holder through the metal loop in front of the bag, but this makes the tripod sit lower (not an issue if you have one that folds down to <18" ??), but it for sure makes the tripod less secure--more give left and right.

Im also narrowing in on the 33, as it is about the only one that fits what I'm looking for in a bag (backpack, side access without removing pack, laptop compartment, separate traveling gear area). Do you find it annoying that there is no sternum strap?

I have the 33. Have a look at this thread for my two cents on it...

So I'm digging my 33 now after picking it up yesterday. I'm going to rig a sternum strap on there somehow from REI and I will post pics if anyone is interested. This is the first pack I've bought that I was immediately happy with (besides the strap and lack of water bottle attachment outside). There is plenty of room in the lower compartment for my whole kit including hoods and I can access my three lenses, flash and body by the side access thanks to the two tabbed dividers with only the circles of Velcro.
