I find the update list quite interesting since when I received my 2nd 7D back from CPS they changed to that firmware 2 weeks ago to solve my AF issues and soft images. I even posted they updated my firmware to which another poster commented there were not any updates available. Well... I guess they gave back enough 7D's to the customers to prove the update is worth mentioning to the rest of the world.

I say go for it!

That is interesting.... I doubt Canon is going to list in their "improvements and fixes":

- Fixes softness found in image quality
- Fixes random front/back focusing

Makes you wonder what stuff does not make the "full disclosure list".

Who knows.

Here's a quick list of things that it didn't fix:

- Viewfinder level still goes in different direction portrait vs. landscape
- Burst speed still slows in low light
- No audio level control

It's a computer with a shutter. Why the paranoia?
I'll install it.

Ok - One difference that I'm seeing is the "shots remaining number" just increased.

I have a 16GB card and when formatted and empty, I've had the shots remaining display read 505

After this firmware update, I'm seeing 541

The image data takes up less space without those magenta bands.

Yeah you just re-flash using the older firmware.

Firmware Version 1.2.1 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.2.0. If the camera's firmware is already version 1.2.1, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
Note that cameras with firmware Version 1.2.1, 1.2.0 cannot be downgraded to a previous firmware version (such as Version 1.1.0).

BTW, none of my settings were lost - including C1, C2, C3

how do you do to keep your settings?
I thought every firmware update will erase customer settings.

I don't know - they're still all there and my firmware reads 1.2.1

No reason why Canon can't write them to the CF card, upgrade the firmware, and then restore them... or something to that effect.

I can only remember one firmware update that did this and it was quite some time ago.

Sent mine into Canon for focus check last Monday. this tuesday I finally got a message saying that they had received it, and would be inspecting it. Wonder if they'll go ahead and slap it in for me? I KNOW they're Canon techs, but I still get nervous when the cams not in my own hands.

mine only went from 505 to 540.

I am missing focus a lot (could be user error) but I am going to try this if it fixed your focus and softness!! Hope it does so for mine if it isn't user error lol
