These are a few of my friends who follow me around in the forest... I took these shots with my super zoom camera, as I don't have a wide enough angle lens for the hand landing photos...

Red-breasted Nuthatch

Pine Siskin

Black-capped Chickadee.... if you look closely behind the chickadee, you will see the next group of "freeloaders" coming out of the woods.

Some of my friends I feed, have fur instead of feathers.... I was hoping one of my chickadees would land on my shoulder to make legitimate bird photos :)

Can I come live with you? :)
Seriously though, that's very cool how you've made friends with all those little (and big ) guys.
Thanks for posting these.

I'm sorry that you have such a rough life!! Can you give us a little more background about what you have going on up there? Obviously very unique and special!

Such a wonderful set; I'd love to have the locals be that relaxed with me :) Number 3's terrific, with the deer in the BG!

It certainly makes the winter go a bit faster and more enjoyable. The Superior National Forest is 50 feet out my back door, so I see and interact with a variety of birds and animals... from around 23 species of Wood Warblers and a large variety of song birds in the nesting season... animals include the Gray Wolf (who I just photographed a few days ago) Fishers, Pine Marten, Black Bear, moose, Gray Fox, Cross Fox & Red Fox... plus many others. You said it best, "a very unique and special" place... thank you for your comments & inquiries Holger.

Excellent photos, and great fun with the hand feeding! We had a White Breasted Nuthatch coming to our feeders and feeding from our hands for over 3 years. Here's a link to a YouTube video I made...

We're in an apartment complex, and although the other birds watch and know we have seeds in our hands, they're a little too skittish to come all the way in to take some.
