I have a Slik Pro Pod 382CF monopod & am in need of a recommendation for a ball head. The head will support up to a maximum weight of 5 lbs. And since the reason I bought the 382CF monopod was for it's light weight, I am looking for a ball head that is lightweight as well.

Thank you for any recommendations. I appreciate it.

It depends what your price range is. As a cheapo though, I would recommend the Benro B0 or B1 ballheads. You can get each for about $100 if you know where to look. If you can afford $400 ballheads though, the world opens up for you!

I bought a Giottos MH1302-652 to go with my monopod in November. Looking up Adoroma's site, I think the updated equivalent could be the MH-1001. It has a calibrated tension control which you can set the friction to suit the weight of your camera and lens combination.

Take a look -

I use either a Manfrotto 482

or a large leica

The Manfrotto is very small and the Leica has a very sure grip with little pressure and is quick and easy to adjust due to the ribbed ball . I does have a bit of heft though. I got it in the mid to early 80's so it is durable. I got the Manfrotto to support a flash but I use it for a camera if I want the smallest package on my monopod.

The Manfrotto 494 is also possible but I have not used it

Thank you for the suggestions. Lightweight will be important. I will use the monopod primarily when I travel. And since I carry no more than can fit in an airplane's overhead bin, size & weight will take precedence over superior quality.

I use an RRS MH-01 with B2-Pro II QR head. Very smooth and only 13 oz. total for the combo. Stated capacity is 75 lb so that should cover your needs :-)
