Got ya!...awesome shot!...your location was a lot better than mine...i was in between Ferry landing and Tidelands park trying to get the bridge in some of the shots so i got a lot of underbellies during the show...

I wanted to try and get the bridge in the shots, but I figured I would go to the actual show for the static displays and vendors as well. They had grandstands set up where you just paid $5 to get a seat in. Got in at like 10am, and claimed a seat on the second to last row next to a bunch of british photogs over on one of those paid photo excursions. The entire back two rows of both grandstands were filled with photographers with long white lenses. Pretty awesome hearing all the shutters firing off at once.

I guess Iran declined the invite to come play...
Seeing the entire air wing of the Stennis go over as the finalé was a close second.

I switched to a wide angle for the flyover, but wasn't able to dial it in correctly while they were going overhead so I missed getting shots of that. It was pretty cool though.

Looks like you certainly got your money's worth out of the lens. Looking forward to seeing what else you came up with.
Haha yeah. Still going through images from the show. Got a ton more left.

Now are you not glad you're only inconceniencing a few electrons instead of developing fifty-six rolls of film???

Definitely. Digital is awesome. I had a ton of tossaways from the prop planes due to a slow shutter speed. I don't think I went faster than 1/160 at 400mm for them. There were some that I was doing 1/80 for (mainly helos for that slow)

Just purchased tickets to Avalon Airshow here in Australia. Hopefully I'll get something as good as these. Also ordered a 100-400mm to take along

It was a great show. I could have used a 500mm to fill the frame though. These are all fairly cropped still. Helos, the big birds, and formations were the only ones that I could fill the frame with at 400mm and below.

All of these pictures are awesome, but does anybody know the story behind these f-16s? Are they operated by the USN/USMC as aggressors or something?
That is my understanding. They use them to train against.

AGREED!!!
And definitely, #1 is

and the reason I love aviation & photography.
Now, if only I could get my type rating in a fighter jet...

Just like everything in life, all it requires is a little money. I think I'm going to print out #1 and hang it. It was a lucky shot as my camera was buffering and only fired once when they were in front of the moon.
