I got my canon 7d for a christmas present brand new with the 28-135 kit lens. It was working fine for like 3 weeks then every time i go to take a picture a error 20 come up so i took it into the canon shop because i was leaving to Quebec to take pictures (one of the reasons why i wanted this camera) they said it dint have a problem when they tested it so they cleaned it and gave it back to me seemed to be working for about 5 days now im in Quebec an dont have a camera to use because the same error message comes up. I also just bought the 24-105 to use as a walk around lens. i might just send it back to them get all my money back and go buy a different canon or do all canons built as bad as mine. Or maybe should i go to nikon. What do you think but i know stuck here in Quebec with $3000 dollars of worthless gear. What do you think i should? Should send it back again. What would you do.

trying pulling out the watch battery in the battery compartment..maybe it will help reboot it and clear everything and can use the camera..I dont know what the error 20 means. I dont think I have heard anyone else with this and not many issues i have read like this with any of teh cameras.

Try flashing your firmware and also follow the battery reset method as mentioned above. I've had my 7D since November and not once have I gotten any error message (*knock on wood*).

err 20 looks to be a 'mechanical failure', of what it doesn't say.

Do you get the error message with both lens' ? Maybe it's not the camera but the lens in particular.

Error 20 usually relates to a CF card problem, what card are you using, was it formatted in the camera ?
Also check the card slot for any bent pins.

Did you change CF cards, is this when the problems started happening ?
Try formatting the card in the camera.

No i have had the same cf card the whole time and yes i have formated every time after putting the pictures on my computer
my memory card is a Digital Speed 500x 100MB/s 16GB
is that a good one my mom got it online for christmas for me. I will try to get a new one and see if that works. It might because when i took it into canon the first time they said they took 50 photos with their cf card and the error dint happen once. Ill cross my fingers!

Just try another card, something like a Sandisk or Lexar.
Any bent or missing pins in the card slot ?

Your CF speed seems a little to slow for your 7D. I have a CF card from 5 yrs ago and it is rated allot faster then yours. But anyway I would suspect your CF card is the heart of the problem.

I tried shooting it without the card and the error 20 still comes up.
