How long of a cable are you using for tethered shooting - and where did you get it?

Searched pretty quick, might have missed it, I know about the max length for USB is 5m (16.5'), which should be all the length I need to tether, but wanted to know how long and where you got your cords?

Considering buying with with an active repeater (amplifier) just for good measure. Can't seem to locate an A to Mini B cable with one built in, so buying an amplified extension would give me closer to 6 or 7M, which is fine, just looking for a cheap, reliable resource to get two cables (one to use and one as a backup)

I use these:

They consist of an amplifier and reciever with whatever length standard cat 5 ethernet cable (up to 150 feet) that you insert between them.

Thanks - use those at work sometimes - trying to stay as bulk-free as possible.

So apparently the key word to search for is repeater

From eBay for $7.79 with free shipping (external link), guess I'm buying 2.

Without a solution such as JEC has provided or something like it and using only a USB cable you are limited to 15ft as per the USB spec. There is always a wireless solution but that wouldn't be tethered.

Maybe you misread my initial post then - as I also seemed to find a solution by changing my search terms. The 5m (16.5') repeater (amplifier) can be daisy-chained together well over 80'. I only need 15-20' so this works fine.

Like I said, I've used some of the USB > CAT5 extensions in the past (I'm a network admin for a full time gig) and for power hungry devices (tethered shooting), I'm afraid it will be inconsistent. I'll be ordering the ones above this afternoon and will report back when they arrive.

Sorry about that boss. Got hung up on a call while replying to the thread. Hope they work well for you.
