id please, flying bug.

So, I've found these things that seem to live in my hang-on-back filter on my fish tank. My filters are covered in cases that these things hatch from, and I have no idea what they are.

a non-biting midge (chironomid), should make tasty snacks for your fish.

Cool, someone said the same thing over on the fish forum I posted at.

They are staying in the filter more then getting in the tank. Then just flying around my apt annoying me to no end. heh. Though this little impromptu shoot makes me wanna grab some extension tubes for my Canon 100.

they are fairly easy to photograph as they are not very flighty, the problem is they normally rest with their head bowed and front legs covering part of the thorax; one I took in 2009

Very nice! I wish mine had more detail.. But I was pressed up against my wall, tripod standing on 2 legs trying to get this picture. heh.

Good capture- agree a chironomid midge (female) - try finding a male- they have wonderful feathery antennae.
