UCF-Tulsa Basketball

I had the good fortune of center court seats to a University of Central Florida basketball game last Saturday. Michael Jordan's son Marcus plays for them, as does his other son who is a red shirt this year.

I'm happy we got a win. This game was WAY to much like the Memphis game.

Wow you did a much better job. I never left my designated seat the whole game. This was my first time shooting basketball. I didn't get much of anything the first half because I was following the ball wherever it went. Most of the 2nd half I sing-shot focused on the rim. It's pretty amazing how close you got with that 50mm. Mad props.

Are you guys shooting for the school? I didn't know that you could bring your big DSLRs in there without getting snubbed by security?

From what I have seen the last several years covering UCF basketball is that they are pretty lenient as far as bringing in white glass as long as it is not a 300 or 400, I have seen people in the audience with 70-200. I think this policy will change as the teams get better and more exposure, after all NCAA and most schools want to control how images are used.

I think gripped/pro looking cameras get stopped too. The policy is: No - "Still cameras (professional) with lenses over five inches long and/or 50mm and above"

Hello Surfer. My wife retired as a principal at a Titusville Elementary school. I showed your pic of MJ to my son-in-law, who has a 6'6" H.S. junior C/F. They're looking out-of-state, but I'm hoping to keep him in-state.

I hope he's as impressed by your pics as I was... maybe my grandson can play with Mike's redshirt son.

I'm waiting for my 550D + 85mm to arrive to shoot the AAU summer season. Hope I'm a fast learner.

I think somebody could get in with a 70-200 and a gripped or 1d body. I bet you could get a 300 f/4 in. Maybe not... I know somebody that takes a gripped D300 and 24-70 2.8 in to magic games and that set up looks kind of big.

For shooting in the stands the UCF women's games are the games to go to. About 10 people in the stands and it is general admission so you can move around easy.

The red-shirted son, Jeffery, is a senior; so after next season he graduates.

QB@LL - No I am not shooting for the school, I just couldn't leave my camera at home with center court seats. Security didn't give my camera a second glance and I was standing next to them waiting on a friend for some time.
BubbyGator - Which elementary school? I went to Apollo myself. I think the 85mm (either one) would work really well and wish you luck. Let me know when you get your kit and I'll teach you everything I know. I'm sure we can have you up to speed in 1 session. I could probably teach the critical concepts (popper exposure and why etc.) within half an hour or so. The fine tuning I am still working on myself but at least you can hit the ground running. This was my first time shooting basketball and I think I'll do much better with a game under my belt. Go Gators!

UCF's paintball team is playing a tournament in lakeland saturday against other colleges, UF, FSU, Georgia will be there along with others.
