check out Fry's local add this week. I remember see a good deal that's good until the 17th.

I got a500 GB portable Western Digital exactly a year ago I droped it 2 feet off a shelf they don't like it it never worked again. I replaced it with a 500 Hitatchi.$65 at Office Max in 6-10 Nice looking in an aluminum case *sturdier" I hope. It works great. I don't use it as a portable it stays strapped to the desk top. It keeps my wife happy because it is my drive for photos. I don't muck up her hard drive on the box. Worth having just for that.External is like having a second computer. If the main box goes in for service like mine does at least once a year Just dump to the external and unplug. . My service guy always wants to wipe out my C drive. I just reinstall a few days later from the Hitatchi when it comes home.

I picked up a couple IOmega 1 TB SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo two weeks ago
from Dell for $129, to add to a couple of the Toshiba units I use. They are USB2 & 3
and are fast even on my "Old and Useless" laptops and desktops that only support USB2

They also have a 500G model for $79 although it was $69 last week

Also depending upon the week, they drop the price on the same units, based on
nothing more than Colour (IE. red one week, blue the next ...)

Keep an eye on Staples too. Every so often they run some pretty good deals on drives. I picked up a couple of externals (1TB and 2TB) from them for <$200 for the two of them.

I usually purchase HD's from mwave.com - I just added a 1TB HD to my computer last weekend. Got it from mwave - less than $70 including shipping.

western digital 2TB on sale at frys electronic near my place for only $119.89 and 1TB for only $79.99

Two weeks ago I was at Best Buy and bought a Western Digital USB 2.0/3.0 1TB drive for $88.99. In store the price was $119.99 but I looked up their online pricing and they price matched it.

I saw that... I was reading mixed reviews on the Seagate Free Agent, trying to decide if I should buy it or not...

By portable I assume you mean 2.5" form factor. I saw a USB 3.0 500GB HP branded drive at buydig.com for $65.
