Howdy--

I just chanced upon an ef 300 L 1:4 at a shamefully, laughably low price at a thrift shop. Oh yeah, it has a 1.4 extender on it. And a filter. And all caps. Really ticked because it doesn't have a case. Insert smiley face here.

Doesn't appear to be IS, at least it doesn't say it. So, I'm guessing it's an older version of this lens because, apparently, the new ones are all IS.

Anybody with any dope on it, I'd appreciate a yell. PM is probably best.

Thanks

I thought I was relatively young and relatively caught up in current lingo... but what does this mean?

I'm wondering too.... do you want to sell this lens or you want to tell us how cheap you bought...

It's old school slang as in, "The straight dope".

My take on it is that the OP didn't buy it and wants information beforehand.

The 300mm f/4L non-IS lens is excellent. It is said to have even better image quality than the present model which has IS. If that is true, the image quality must be superb because my IS lens produces excellent image quality.

I suggest you do a Google search with "Canon 300mm f/4L" as your search parameters.

There have been two of these lenses sold on U.S.A. eBay during the past few weeks. They went for: $689 and $649 (U.S. Dollars).

I've got the new IS version, and it's great. I have heard from many forum-frequenters that the old non-IS version is even sharper. Photozone's test of both showed them to be about equal. I've got no complaints about mine. If you can use the focal length and the price is right, go for it!
