Just noticed this highlight band in all my pictures from a walk-around I did earlier today. Is this something to do with the sunlight creeping in from one side of the lens? Its in most of my pics but not all, so maybe its something to do with settings. Also, it always seems to be on the same side. For verticle shots its on the left like this one, for horizontal its at the top. Using 1Ds II and 85L... just curious if anybody has seen something like this before.

My guess it's shutter related.

My guess it's shutter related.

My first thought too...

unless the seals around the mirror are gone and are letting in light from your viewfinder? ...or your mirror is not slapping up all the way?

My guess is shutter.

On the mirror idea - if the mirror would not close properly you'd have the camera to your eye -> dark -> additionally it would be more light leakage into the lens or even a black bar from a shadow thrown by the mirror.

Yeah it seems like maybe the shutter isn't closing all the way when it snaps back..

Sorry to bear bad tidings, but...............
Definitly the shutter starting to fail - I see from the EXIF that this was at 1/4000th of a second; try a slower speed to see if it still occurs.
It will not get better I'm afraid, but will start to show at slower and slower speeds before finally shedding a shutter blade or two, or throwing up Error 99's every shutter press.
Time for a trip to Canon...............
