ok so this summer i bought my t2i with kit lens... my first telezoom was the sigma 70-300 dg. it doesnt say dg but i found pics on google saying it was the dg... anyway...
my soccer pics (hence why i bought the lens).. came out horrible.. focus was all over the place... OOF everywhere.. well the green box was most of the culprit and the newb hat on my head...

anyway...
how do these rate...

mind you I did no prep for these.. minimal editing... sharpen, color, etc....

im just curious if the lens is good or not... i know it is not soccer pics.. thinking of keeping it in the bag in case i need that extra 50mm (on a 1.6).....

Your pictures look like your lens is working fine. I had the DG model and although it gets softer at 300mm, using a small aperture helps a lot. The DL model came before the DG model. Optically they are basically the same but supposedly the coatings were updated for the DG. Use the hood too to help a bit.

Your 55-250 is a better in most respects for most people. The main advantage of the Sigma is that it can reach 1:2 magnification vs the 1:3 of the Canon. It does zoom in a bit further too but given the better resolving power and lower chromatic aberation of the Canon, you aren't as much ahead. Still if you enjoy using the lens, that is the main thing and you'll be able to get some nice pictures from it.
