It really can depend on how much you want to spend and whether you want to include Bryce or the North Rim. The town of Springdale has a several hotels
including a Best Western and the new Cable Mtn lodge right outside Zion.

You could also choose to stay at Mt Carmel, the Thunderbird Best Western there is well located for getting to Zion (12 miles) or Bryce (70 miles). The North rim is probably about 100 miles. Don't let miles be an issue, little traffic and the scenery makes the miles fly by.

Thanks for the tips Win. That Cable Mountain Lodge looks like a nice place. We're seriously considering that.

There is no better place to stay in all of the Southwest than the Desert Pearl Inn in Springdale, right near the entrance to the park. A bit pricey, but WELL worth it. Get a riverfront room.

The Cable Mtn lodge is brand new and supposed to be very nice. The Desert Pearl is starting to age from what I've been told. A friend that lives/works in Springdale just booked Cable Mtn for her relatives and said the DP was getting run down.

I stayed at the DP just before we moved here (2004) and the river view room was very nice. It was mid-January and there were only two couples in the place. I guess a few years can take its toll in a busy hotel.

Last year stayed at the Majestic Lodge.Nice view from rooms. Going back next month as they sent a 30 % discount offer. Restaurant not much to brag about. Better food in town. Zion is really beautiful.

Has anyone camped inside with an RV? I'm wondering how hard it would be to get around to various hikes once the RV is all parked and hooked up.

Could not agree more. My wife and I stayed at the Desert Pearl in 2009. It is the very nicest resort motel we have ever stayed in, wonderful room and service. Ground floor, riverside, money well spent.

Desert Pearl, Riverside, our room in the center, bird calls and the sounds of the Virgin River.

Yeah, I checked out that sight already. Looks really nice. We are now debating between that and Cable Mountain. Thanks all.

I stayed right inside the Park back in '98. But the cabins are likely all booked up and I am sure are a bit more expensive than what they were back then.

I went in May. Water is a little too high to hike the Canyon, but Zion is an amazing place for sure.....not going top Bryce?

If we go to Bryce it will be a day trip, but most likely not. We're only going to be in the area for a couple of days. This is a "getting our feet wet" sort of trip. We will be back for a more extensive tour, probably in September.

Zion gets crowded quickly once people are done with breakfast....so get up early and enjoy the quietness. I'd love to go back there.....but so many places so little time.

Enjoy!

You can camp in the NP (Watchman Campground has electric, I believe). From there you ride the shuttle up the canyon, getting off and on as you need to see the various stops. A car would give you greater range outside the canyon, so I would recommend it if possible.
