I've gone through 2 sets of umbrella holders that were made cheaply and the umbrella wasn't angled correctly so the flash would hit the top of the umbrella. Instead of buying another set and trying it out, I'd like to know what you guys use and if you guys have any recommendations. Keep in mind, I'd like to keep it around $20 for each holder.

Here's the one I bought last night. Should arrive soon so I'll let you know! 89 reviews @ 4.5/5 stars. I'd say that's fairly decent ;) Only $22!

You know the saying "buy nice, cry once; buy cheap cry twice..."?
you've already gone through two sets and are still looking cheap. . . .
Why not just get the Manfrotto unit and know it will be right?

Here (external link) are three good options.
The one Aressem suggested is plastic. I like these better. I have these as well as the plastic ones.

Honestly the impacts ones are junk. Buy bogen ones or equivalent from cheetah stand guy.

The cheetah stand link isn't showing it right now. I just got it about two weeks ago and it is so much better than junk I had been using before. Unlike bogen model, cheetah stand version has locking teeth, good or bad depends on you. I like it.

I'm looking at those. Right now I'm trying to decide between the Impact ones and the Manfrotto 026 model. They both look promising. No more ePhoto or CowboyStudio PoS holders for me.

EDIT:

Guess I'm going for Manfrotto! Another week's lunch money, but it's all good. xD

I own both the impact and manfrotto, definitely go with the manfrotto... i thought impact ones were 10$ cheaper, but i guess now there the same price.. i dont really notice much difference between the two though.. besides one is like plastic the other is metal.. as long as the threads/screws/studs are solid, thats all that really matters.

Your umbrella holders should have geared teeth to insure a positive grip. I sure there are many, but two come to mind in the Photek Shoe Mount Umbrella Adapter and the Morris MTH-202 Umbrella Tilt Head.
Edit: Should have added links:

The cold shoe on the Morris adapter is a pain.

The cheetahstand heavy duty adapter that I just bought has geared teeth and built like bogen model. I will definitely look at it. Robert (TMR) has done a review of it if I am not mistaken.

I own and use the Cheetah umbrella adapters and like them very much. Almost identical build to the Manfrotto 026 but with the teeth in the swivel.
