I will be in Kauai for a week in March. I am interested in unique places on the island to capture the "quintessential Kauai". I would appreciate any ideas & suggestions from those who have photographed there before. Thank you kindly.

Look into Secrets Beach and adjacent laval pools (go west along beach), Hanalei Valley and Waimea Canyon (canyon trail and KuKui trail). All offer something different and less crowded.

Be sure to get down to Spouting Horn, for sunset, too. And be aware that, unlike the larger islands, most of Kauai shuts DOWN about 6pm.

NaPali Coast is a great spot too. Drive to the end of Kokee Road and hike up to Pu'u Lookout. You can also take a Catamaran ride to see the entire coast, so that might be an option of you want to take your camera on a boat. If you are doing any underwater shooting, Haena State Park is a great spot, but get there early, it fills up fast and parking is very very limited.

Helicopter rides are popular, but unless you get a front seat it wil be hard to take photos. The rides can be a little scary due to choppy weather.
