Hey, there's a red pole in the way. I see what you were trying for, doesn't do it for me. Looks like it was shot passing the runway from a moving car.

Hi there - appreciate your feedback! Any suggestions on how it could be improved??

shoot from above the red poles? lol. That nearest pole, especially being OOF, is just really distracting. If that pole weren't there it'd be a good, though wide, picture.

Which makes me think, if you had a wider lens, you could have shot from much lower, looking up, and waited for the plane to get closer... that'd be dramatic I think.

I like it. Any pilot or avid aircraft spotter would like this photo I think. The approach lights are just part of the airport environment; however, if it were a telephone pole I might think differently.

hey man, been a while. i like the shot, gives it character. the only thing i may have done would be to have the pole to one side of the plane, as to not cur it off.

btw, just checked out your blog, WOW! Alert NWT, that must have been unreal. I may have to catch up with you at CIAS this year, depending on who's coming. I was disappointed last year as pretty much the same line-up could be seen in Brantford, with a lot less hassle and better viewing.

Slightly impossible to be above the approach lights, lol. I was thinking about shooting from lower, but given that the approach lights were inaccessible, I thought this would be an interesting approach to the shot.

Thank you Aerophile - glad you like it!

Rick! Definitely been a while, hope you're doing well! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a whirl when I'm out there next.

Yep, Alert was a hoot...hehe. The piece with photos can be found in the March/April issue of Canadian Aviator Magazine - blatant self promotion...

I hear you about CIAS and Brantford - you should check out Waterloo if you can, great lineup and perfect lighting and proximity to the runway. :)

Cheers, Attila

have the poles towards the right of the shot, and have the plane coming in on the left with space between.

Any picture with a C5 is good for me!

I like the idea of the photo! Good work.

I think I understand what you mean, and I'll give it a try the next time I'm at an airfield where space isn't a limiting factor.

I personally think the shot would have looked better had the C-5 been above the lights so that they don't block any of it, but I like it none the less

Would have been cool without the first red pole.

Thanks for the comment - I'll give that a shot the next time I go out there. Do you think it would be ok if the lead light would be to the right of the aircraft?

Thanks for the comment - it seems to be a re-occurring theme throughout the thread!

I think this is a great shot. I think that the landing lights, especially the first one, really gives the image a sense of location. That first post really tells you that the aircraft is actually coming into land on that runway.
