This is the first Barred Owl I had ever seen and photographed. I was looking through the archives and came across these images which I don't think I ever posted here. They were shot during the 2009/2010 season.

Those are simply amazing! Would you mind sharing some information regarding your setup? Did you use fill flash? Great work!

Harv, these are really beautiful with the October glow for a BG... a fortunate find and lovely captures... enjoyed them all.

I have a Barred Owl that swoops through my motion light at night, trying desperately to nail my flying squirrels... my chickadees usually find the owls for me in the forest, but recently they have been shirking their duties... too much good seed and little work. ;)

I remember your barred owl images from a year or so ago, Harvey. They were beautiful and so are these. A pleasure to watch.

Thanks a lot, Erik. Not much to share. Shot it with a 100-400 on a 1D MkIII. Hand held, no flash.

Thanks a lot, Dave. It has been a pretty slow owl season this year around here.

Thanks a lot. Yep, it's snacking on a garter snake.

Thanks, buddy. I watched it launch from a branch to snag the snake for lunch. It took a while to swallow it.

Wow Harvey. These are great, I really like the "snake shot" too (love snakes and such, but it's such a cool behavior shot!).
