I only took it off to put on my Tokina 11-16 for some indoors shots. Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Orogeny Goldmember More info | I agree with Alex. The 17-55 will probably stay on your camera almost all the time. However, there were times when I was in Italy and Spain that I wished that I had something longer than I had (I was using a Sigma 17-70) to get detail shots, specifically in churches. RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | DEFINITELY THE 70-200MM F/4L IS It allows me to crop in the camera to isolate portions of a scene... IMAGE LINK: http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com …68SH#859064345_rZdEm-A-LB It allows me to compress distances... IMAGE LINK: http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com …68SH#859075179_jsPrJ-A-LB I carry a pair of 1.6x cameras (30D and 40D) and having both lenses at my finger tips gives me a focal range of 17-200mm (I don't miss the 55-70mm gap at all). I like having a longer lens with me because I can get shots of interesting people without getting into their personal zone and making them aware of my camera which causes people to feel uncomfortable and act differently... IMAGE LINK: http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com …68SH#859070869_vsmxq-A-LB I would definitely recommend that you pick up a second camera to use on your trip. I would rather shoot with my two lenses on my 30D and 40D cameras than to shoot with the two lenses on only one more up-to-date camera such as the 7D. Having two cameras is also an insurance policy against missing coverage of any event due to camera failure. I fell climbing a slope on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula on the first day of a 10-day trip and broke my 40D camera. Having my 30D along allowed me coverage of that very picturesque and interesting area. You don't have to be climbing slopes to break a camera. A fellow tour member fell on the sidewalk outside the City Walls of Xi'an, China and broke his Nikon DSLR. He had no backup camera and missed a lot of coverage of that once in a lifetime trip. I would expect that there is not a great deal of difference in lens needs when covering China and covering Europe... My China galleries shot entirely with the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and 70-200mm f/4L IS on my 30D and 40D cameras are located at: http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/ Scroll down for the galleries and HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP... I voted 70-200 out of the options that you provided simply for the usefulness of the range vs the weight. When I went, I brought along the 70-200 2.8IS, 10-22, and Sigma 30 1.4. 7D| Canon 17-55 2.8| 70-200 2.8L IS| 85 1.8| Sigma 30 1.4
