I'm trying to work with high speed flash with my 60d and an off camera 430exii. The 430 is triggered by the on-board flash, but I can't seem to get it past 1/250. Am I to understand that HSS doesn't work with the built-in wireless mode?

I do not think that either the 7D or the 60D popup as a master supports HSS.

no HSS support from Canon yet if you're using a 60D or 7D to trigger a slave flash
you need an ST-E2 or flash master

Off camera syncing wth the popup flash the sync speed is 1/250.

You can use pocket wizards tt5 and sync much higher. or get an STE-2 of use a 580exII as a master.

Or use a long cable.
