I was bored yesterday so I decided to go out back and play with the 2xTC on the 500.

Trying to get these active little tweety birds in the viewfinder at 1000mm is like trying to catch a look at them through a drinking straw. The AF certainly slows down and the depth of field is about the thickness of a postage stamp. This setup in overcast conditions also dictated fairly slow shutter speed and high ISO.

All in all, I was pleased with the results.

Your introduction made me laugh - very funny, Harvey. But although you say it wasn't easy, the images are wonderful with very good IQ. I like it when you get bored! :)

Those are some sweet photos! I can imagine you trying to keep them in the viewfinder long enough to focus and capture one.. :p

Harvey,
Did you shoot those wide open, or stop down a little.
I find my 2x doesn't hit the sweet spot until 1 stop down from wide open.
