Pocket wizard PowerMC2 for Einsein not ready

I emailed PW yesterday and enquired about the delivery time of the PowerMC2 for February 2011. I was told it will be released in late spring and they are currently working on the project.

Looking at rob galbraith's blog they certainly made it look like it was in its final stages. Oh well I would imagine stuff needs to be hammered out before they market it.

That's a shame. However, it does give me an excuse to hold off buying an Einstein (which are backordered anyway).

No surprise. PocketWizard never seems to hit their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. target date, but they do eventually deliver.

LPA must have the worst distribution channel I know..

Oftentimes too when Pocketwizard does make a product available, no body will have it in stock for months. There are countless products that B&H just don't even carry.

Look how long it took them to release the Nikon version of the mini and flex. We were told so many times it was being worked on and release dates got pushed further and further behind.

I think that's what we can expect for any of these new products.

ahhhhh I still have so much to learn in the studio strobe world.

I think that over the past year I wrote to Pocket Wizard 3 or 4 times and called several times as well. Not once did I get anything closer to accurate information.

But, this isn't Pocket Wizard. This is the excuse geniuses of LPA and PCB combining forces and they have one another to push blame on.. Marriage made in heaven. As soon as testing completes of course.

Sorry, I was referring to the Nikon version of the new Pocket Wizards but you're completely right. It is a marriage made in heaven.

And, so they have. I was talking with the PW rep in Boston this past weekend at the Flash Bus Tour and he mentioned that he was pretty sure they had shipped to PCB and should be available for purchase soon. I looked today and they are, so I placed my order.

I really am curious if hypersync will reap some decent shutter speeds beyond max flash sync.

Using the AC3 is limited to 3 zones but it sure will be super quick in adjusting the einsteins.

Actually its 3 stops plus and 3 stops minus. In addition, if you want to have the 6 stop range at the bottom end rather than the top end, that can be set in the ControlTL utility.

Because the Einstein is controlled using IGBT technology, Hyper Sync is only useful at full power. Below full power there are both front and rear curtain shadows.

One minor benefit, the MC2 does appear to permit sync at 1/250 on a Canon 5DII.

Bottom line, they work.

There are some inaccuracies on the Pocket Wizard site. They apparently copied and pasted material from the Elinchrom STE2 material.

Here is an image that was shot using MC2 on an Einstein, CSRB+ with AC9 on an ABR800 and MiniTT1 with AC3 on a 5DII.

The Einstein had a 36" deep octa knockoff and the ABr800 had is diffusor without outer reflector.
