Here is a question, does anyone know how secure facebook apps are, to add stuff to a fan page under the "info/photos/events" area?
I think I found a couple apps that I want to add, but it is asking to access my personal info for some reason.
The first one is a google voice app that will let people call me for free using the app. its not by google, you would think google would make one, they made a gadget for blogs to do this.
The 2nd is a "contact me" app. theres no message me feature on my page and not everyone actually reads to find info they need. So I want to make it easier for them.
There's no blanket response for this... if an app is not made by a group, organization, or individual you trust, you have to be wary. There have been rogue apps that take advantage, but that's not really the norm. To be safe, I'd just do some searching on the apps to see what people are saying about it. As long as you don't see people talking about it being a scam or whatever, chances are it's just fine.
The apps require you give them access to your info just as part of Facebook's normal terms of service (it's never been known for great privacy restrictions anyway).
This may be too advanced for some people here, but if you're concerned and you'd like more control in general, you may consider making your own custom app. It's really not that difficult and there are blogs that walk you through how to do it if you search. Currently I have my own basic custom app that I have control over and it simply pulls down a .php file from my own web server. With that file, I can make it just like any normal webpage (with some restrictions). From there you should be able to find code to build your own contact forms and maybe even use Google's blog gadget for Google Voice (I haven't tried this so I'm not sure).
I do have a background in programming, nothing fancy, just an old program from high school and visual basic.
