This link was posted on FM a little while ago:

Looks like Photoflex is jumping into the lithium-powered, portable flash arena. No detailed specs and a not very appealing price but interesting all the same.

Hi Dave,

I saw that but didn't see the battery and strobe head sold alone. I only see kits, which I guess is good marketing for some but many will want the battery and head and then choose their own modifiers.

Good marketing, perhaps, but without knowing stored energy (Ws), flash durations, power adjustment range, accessory mount type, etc., I wouldn't want it at all.

I was just wondering about the Triton info myself. They don't have much more than the basic info about it.

It looks like WPPI will see the Triton's formal debut. In response to a question, Photoflex has let on that power is equivalent to a 300Ws monolight:

This site adds that it's designed to compete with the Ranger RX's

That would be a tall order.

At 300 Watt seconds with a small-ish accessory mount, I can't see it as competition for a Ranger RX. Depending on actual performance it may or may not be competition for the Quadra.

Any idea what that accessory mount might be, Rob? It certainly isn't Bowens. It could be Comet but that's just a guess based on a not very helpful photo.

My guess is that it's the Photoflex mount that is in their StarFlash series (is that the name?).

Since they already have a mount I don't think they would produce a light that used a third party mount.

That article actually says it'll offer competition to the Quadra Ranger RX, which would make more sense. :)

I wonder what the flash duration will be and at what power level you can achieve the 7 fps. And since it accepts two heads will the max power to each head be 150ws or is it split asynchronously? Looks like a promising product and it could rival the Quadra depending on its specs.

The Starflash mount looks like a Bowens mount to me, Rob. This is the Starflash speed ring:

This shows a small octa mounted on the Triton head;

Looks like the mounting ring is slotted and slips over the outside of the head. We'll know all on 2/21. I can wait :).

I always thought Photoflex had some newfangled proprietary mount. If they're using the Bowens mount that that's a good thing but details of the battery and strobe still remain to be seen.

Good to see...the 300 ws isn't every exciting though.

As I said in another previous post...I expect a wave of reasonably affordable Lithium powered battery packs to pop up in 2011 and beyond. SLA is a dying technology.
