Welcome to the wonderful world of Canon :D I thought they wouldn't allow prices under $1450 total, but this is ridiculous :D

It's still early. They'll likely lower the price later.

Well, they just lost my business. Sorry B&H, I've been a long-time customer who spent a lot of money there but when you pull stuff like this when other retailers are still in the sub-$1500 range I won't be buying from you.

I wonder if B&H has a price error. Seems like the official rebate form shows $1699 - $200 instant rebate = $1499 which saves you nothing prior to the rebates. But if they actually raised the price $200 with the rebates, then .....

Adorama hasn't updated their price yet either but I bet it will be $1499. What a joke.

All the vendors are doing the same exact thing, Amazon included.

The price of the 60D was $888 yesterday and it is still $888 this morning since they jacked the listed price up to match the $100.00 rebate.

They are all guilty of Scam marketing IMO. But nothing out of the ordinary since these vendors think your ignorant.

Regards, ;)

adorama also hasn't updated to include the $200 rebate... I've been waiting for today to see what happens with the 60d.. I bought one earlier this week in hopes that it would drop a little more...

alas I got up this morning to find they'd hiked the price by $110 so it's more with the $100 rebate than it was last night... go figure... now to decide if I return the body (i've only put 30 or so shots though it) in the name of saving $80 by going with the adorama refurb body (which isn't avl yet so i'd be waiting more doh)

The age old question is, did Canon raise prices or did the vendors do it. I think it's Canon, but in the past they would not admit it.

But when these vendors had possibly 500 7D & 60D units on the shelf yesterday that were purchased at a lower price from Canon who is making the most profit today when some ignorant consumer hits the buy button ! ;)

Considering that the dollar has lost more than 30% of its value against the yen in the last two years... is it any wonder, or surprise that Japanese manufacturers will be raising prices when sales are in US$.
A couple of years ago, the exchange rate was 115 Yen to the Dollar. It is currently 82 yen. You figure it out.
Blame monetary policy HERE... not the Japanese.

That's not really true. They were likely taking less margin at their lower price.

As Canon Price Watch states:

It is confirmed that stores will be forced to price at the "Minimum Advertised Price" indicated in the flyer. As with last rebates, some deals are to be had in the first 1-2 days as stores sort their pricing out. If you see great deals (below the forced minimum pricing) I would strongly consider them now.

There's a pretty good chance that B&H screwed up the price and will be reducing it to the price seen on the flyer.
