Just woke up to buy the 7d this morning with the rebate and found one of the online sellers did exactly what everyone said they would. RAISED THE FREAKING PRICE to cover the rebate! Not sure if I can mention specific retailers here but it's one of the big 3 that everyone here buys from in NY. The others don't even mention the rebate on their sites.

So ticked off right now...

Prices are ridiculously high. $1899 for Canon 7D body....Clearly they don't intend to sell any!

It's listed as $1479 w/ free shipping on Amazon, and that's sold through Adorama, and it's listed as in stock. I suggest if you want one, you order it quickly.

This is complete crap!!! There should be laws to protect consumers against this kind of crap.

Does Nikon do this? Maybe it's time we sent Canon a message about this.

Are you really serious? A law to stop stores from charging the prices that they want to charge? Didn't you feel a little strange even mentioning this?

And this has nothing to do with Canon vs. Nikon, but rather how much a store chooses to charge for the product that it is selling.

And even more importantly, are you still surprised by these price hikes?

I just saw that on their website I too want to buy a 7D so I sent them and email probably won't do anything. I guess I will be waiting till the rebate ends now.

Actually that's not true. Canon has a minimum advertised price that they enforce with their retailers.

But Canon doesn't have a maximum price. It's up to the dealer to set their prices. If you don't like it, don't buy from them.

This happens EVERY year!...

The retail stores claim that Canon raises the prices on them right before the rebates, maybe they do...doesn't really matter. Honestly, the
"Rebates" are mostly just a sales gimmick that rope in the people who do not closely follow the prices. John Doe walks into whatever store and see's that the Canon 7D is $200 bucks off it's "Regular" price then he thinks he's getting a deal, having no clue that he could have bought it for the same amount a week earlier. This works though, and that's why they do it ;) ALL stores do this in some form or another, clothing stores will double their prices on the sales tag and then throw a 50% off sale sign on the rack, now if you visit that store often you know it's B.S. but just think of how many will stop at that rack and buy just because they think they are getting a deal.

Last night after midnight Calumet had the 7D for $1329 shipped, I see they are at $1499 this morning. I ordered my 60D last night for $70 less than it is selling for this morning.

These kinds of things dont affect smart shoppers.

IF you REALLY want a 7D, you buy a cheap broken Canon P&S from Ebay for $10, call up, and buy the 7D for $1087ish plus Tax. Its that easy. Sitting here b!tchin and moaning about the rebates is useless and just plain dumb.

The rebates have worked exactly this way for years, I dont see why people are surprised.
