Nothing wrong with calling out the manufacturer for a deceptive selling practice. Canon operates just like the sleazy car dealer ships and the bait and switchers on cl. Nothing wrong with let a frustrated consumer vent.

You are right, there is nothing wrong with venting, but this is year after year, the same thing, some how though, people thought it would be different this year, got their hopes up, and are now REALLY upset.......over something they already knew would happen.

Some people believe in the good in other people, that they couldn't possibly be this greedy, and so they put their faith in the potential of a fair process or outcome. It's not uncommon.

I bought mine without the rebate for a lower price. I guess the best plan is buy a camera right before a rebate *LOL*

Adorama. I love you guys:) Thanks for taking time to reply

Well, if you don't like Canon's pricing model and business practices, Nikon is over there ->

It is also possible that some people are new to this deceptive marketing ploy and didn't know this would happen.

I bought my 70-200 f/2.8 IS II during the last round of rebates (November) and actually received $200.00 off the normal price. I understand Canon raised their prices but raising them again for a rebate is not good for the consumer.

what canon may be doing is protecting smaller businesses, like your local camera store you never shop at because you go mail order every time.

again, like i said in another thread, people really aren't that savvy, just a bunch of vultures.

It's funny to hear about greed because all of us are whining to keep an extra $50 of our own money. Isn't that as greedy as Canon wanting to take that 50?

With our local sales tax at 9.3% here, I have a hard time justifying buying a $899 camera body locally and paying an extra $83.60. Shopping online is easy and stretches my gear budget. I realize there is a need to patronize the local camera store so that they stay in business, but darn it stings to pay the sales tax on big ticket merchandise.

So I got my 7D kit for $1649.00.no tax and free shipping..My local shop wanted $1799..plus $107 tax.total $1906.. My savings by going online $257.00... I would love to shop local but I am not giving away $257.00 !!

If I can save $257, I would rather be a vulture than roadkill that the vulture eats...

OH and I did not participate in the HHHMMmm rebate program....

If only Canon would bring back the "Triple Rebates" of several years ago. Those really worked for the consumer! And they weren't accompanied by a "price increase" at the same time. :D

This is my first time of the rebate thing but I kind of knew what was going on so I pounced on a deal Sunday right before the price was raised to help compensate for the rebates.

Maybe we need a new thread.. n00b's unite and fight the Canon Rebates... NNaaaahhhhh

Sales tax is not your local stores problem, it's your state's. they collect it for the state genius. if you don't like it, then complain to your politicians and if they do not do anything about it, elect new ones.

what are people going to do when online vendors have to collect sales tax for the state they are shipping too....wait i know...more crying!
