I've been craving the 70-200 2.8 MK II and was hoping to see a price drop given the new rebates starting today. B&H had a price of $2382 pre rebate has now raised the pre-rebate price to $2499. Is this normal ?

if you buy with a body, you save more. I am happy I bought mine with last set of rebates with a 60d for a final cost of 1860

Canon usually seems to announce rebates in combination with price increases, to give you a chance to take advantage of the old price for a while longer. Perhaps there's some reason they aren't allowed to pre-announce price increases and this lets them work around it.

I think we're beating a dead horse with all these rebate posts.. I think the general consensus is that the rebate didn't make things cheaper (or actually made them more expensive).

Actually, the Fall 2010 rebate brought the 70-200 II down to about $1950 at the major retailers. That was one if the best rebates that I can remember.

But this year they announsed price increase on Feb 1 in between the rerabates.

The rebate definitely made it reachable for me and was a loss to anyone snoozing on the sidelines.

Yeah I was hoping they would have dropped the price a bit more. It was going for $2374 on Amazon on Friday and was hoping to get it at $2174. Unfortunately, according to canonpricewatch.com, Canon is having retailers remark the lens back at the official $2499 price point. This led to the current price of $2299 as seen on Amazon right now. Kind of sucky, but what can you do.

Been saving for a while for this lens and was going to use my tax return to get it, so pulled the trigger this morning at the $2299 price. Beach Camera is selling it at $2174 as of this morning. Good rating from the research I did looking into them, however some people have commented on return policy not as good as Amazon. I figured I would rather spend the extra $125 and be confident that if I get a bad copy from Amazon, I can just return it!

Anxious to get it for sure!!

Edit: Still can't spell :/

It is, but it's ridiculous (in my opinion).

Yes, Canon instant rebates become a sale price. Bestbuy also tends to play the game of raising the price beforehand.
