I hope your still gonna join threads for monitor and calibration because your opinion and advice is valued.

Agreed. I hope you continue to post advice; it was invaluable in helping me get my monitor.

I only see the pro kit listed on NEC website. $299.

B and H @ $277. Also only list pro kit.

The software that comes with the Spectraview allows you to set up different targets with different luminance values, white point, contrast, etc. and switch between them with a mouse click. You can also set up an sRBG emulation target that allows you to work in sRGB if you need or want to. The puck is designed to work with the display. Don't know about the technology involved in that, but I do know that it works. Awesome system.

Sorry, but a couple more questions, I got my PA-241 and it came with a display port cable but no usb. I was wondering if I should use a display port to mini display port cable for my ati4870 mac. I heard OSX doesn't support 10 bit and neither does DVI. Also, somebody told me the video card is a problem too since it doesn't support 10bit. It isn't critical that I get 10bit but would like to use my equipment to the full potential.

I have spyder pro 3, should I buy the spectra view software or just try the spyder 3 pro software?

Any help would be appreciated and thanks to Chas and others for recommendation of this monitor.

i am also interesred now in this monitor. i have given up on dell 2410 having read so many bad reviews ie tint, dead pixels, bad customer care.
Do you think guys this card would support 10 bit? if yes, is it a good buy? I think is's got DP.

Only ATI's Firepro cards will support 10 bit. NVIDIA's Quadro cards will as well. Look at ATI V3800 and V4800. The 4800 is not much more expensive than the 3800 and offers more performance. I have the V4800 and the PA241 and it works great. This is on a PC. Pretty sure Mac doesn't support 10 bit.

Hi everyone

Does anyone else use ati card with their nec241? I checked out V4800 and it's not that expensive compared to nvidia Quadro series. Any trade-offs? Will it truelly support a 10 bit colour? Is it noisy?
It's almost half the price of Nvidia quadro 3700 fx3700.
Do you think it will perform the same?

I should probably mention that I will be installing it onto my new asus p8p67 pro mbo. That should be fine shouldn't it?

Innitially I was thinking of picking up nvidia gtx460 and just making do with 8bit. What are your thoughts?

Thanks a lot for your input and time.

Regards,
Tom.

Each to their own. I went through this exercise when I bought the PA241...should I replace my perfectly good video card GTX460X (overdriven) for 10 bits in CS5 (nothing else I have can use 10 bit). Decided the benefits would be minor and not worth the expense. The monitor is already calibrated using the internal LUT.

If my video card dies, I'll revisit buying a 10 bit card.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Well, the thing is I am in the process of building my first pc so it is not a matter of replacing but making the right choice first time.

If your building a new system, go for it. You really have nothing to lose. You can run that card 8 bit as well. Changing from 10 bit to 8 bit only requires that you uncheck the 10 bit box in the ATI onscreen utility. I leave it in 10 bit all the time. If the software doesn't support 10 bit, Light Room for example, it just runs in 8 bit. You are not even aware of the change. I ran an 8 bit monitor on that card until I bought the PA241. No problem.

Do be aware of the power requirement for the card. I am not at home right now, so I can't check, but I think it is 300w. You can check it on ATI's site or on Newegg. Take that into consideration when sizing your power supply.

I am speaking of the V4800 here, by the way.

Any of these cards have plenty of performance for photo editing. They are actually work station cards primarily designed for 3D graphic applications like CAD applications. They are more than enough for photo editing. That said, they are not good gaming cards.
