Are these good enough reasons to upgrade to a 50D from a XSi?

I have had my XSi for about 3 years now. I still enjoy it but have the following reasons for wanting to upgrade to a 50D. Are they good enough reasons or should I just stick with the XSi?

1. Ergonomics. Love the size.
2. LCD Screen. Sometimes its hard to accurately measure the quality of my photo on the XSi (if I nailed the AF or not)
3. Better AF. I used them side-by-side to shoot a show in really low light and the 50D with a 50mm f/1.8 was catching focus in really dark conditions over my XSi with a 28mm f/1.8
4. Faster burst rate. speaks for itself
5. Buffer size. I hit my 6 image buffer on my XSi often. Kind of annoying to wait for the buffer to clear even when I'm using a class 10 SDHC
6. Micro-Adjust

The only downside is no video recording. Not that I plan on taking videos often but for the occasional capture.

*EDIT* Other downside is that there wouldn't be much improvement in ISO performance.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance POTN. I love you guys.

Yes, those would be legitimate reasons, but really, you don't have to justify anything to the internet. If it satisfies your needs, go for it! If you're looking for that final push, I understand, but when I am making a decision for my purchases, you won't find me on here asking/justifying to random strangers. :D

Also, you'll have more ISO headroom so lower light capability will be a bit better too. Have you also priced the 60D as well? Or perhaps a 7D through the Canon Loyalty Program? Sorry to throw a wrench in there, but they are around the same price I believe (more or less since I haven't priced them in a bit). :p

Get a 7D - some like it and others have experienced difficulties getting used to it, so do some research.

Well, the main point would be deciding how valuable video is to you. I bought a 7D for stills, but that was before I realized how useful an articulating LCD of the 60D is for video...

And some have gotten copies with defective AF--proceed with caution.

Maybe a case of too many focus points - I haven't got a 7D but I only use one focus point.

I've been through the MkIII blamestorm--same symptoms--some work beautifully while others don't work period.

The fanboy base on the forums:rolleyes:

That's mainly why I advised the OP to go for a 7D. If he settles for a 50D now, chances are he'll continue to read these forums and yearn for a 7D :)

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I did plan on upgrading through the CLP

I suppose not very cause I prefer to stick with Canon products which would minimize AF issues.

But I'd like to have it just in case I get unlucky.

I knew a viewfinder could be better in the sense that you see "more" but I never knew it could be "brighter" too. Cool

The 50D just went on sale through CLP--hard to beat the price.

Just make sure the camera is 100% while under the warranty period.

When I went from an XTi to a 40D I remember it being an order of magnitude better in all respects, and I think a XSi to 50D switch would be similar ... go for it. I could detect a definite improvement in many of my images and the ease of control when I got my first XXD body.

P.S. Amazing when the 50D first appeared it was slammed repeatedly by many on this board ... now it's often referred to as "a very good to excellent photographic tool" and "great buy especially now that it's through CLP" ... amazing how perceptions change ...

Perceptions.... and price of course. I'd still prefer a 40D to a 50D
