Hi,
I just spent the whole evening trying to clean my 5D Mark II.
I m pretty sure I have a dust spot just behind the AA filter glass.

It looks different than regular dust specks and I cant see it on the sensors surface:

Has anyone had this problem in the past and is it covered by Canon's warranty policy?

A. Probably not. If you really think so, send it to Canon for repair, or

B. Turn on Dust Delete Data and use it.

It's a little hard to see from your image, but it sure looks like an oil droplet to me. If so, you'll need Eclipse to remove it.

I am 100% sure that it is behind the AA/IR glass and very close to the actual sensor, because the spot is very sharp at f22, which is unusual for regular sensor dust. You can notice sensor dust as a blurry dark spot on f22, but its not very sharp.

I used a magnification glass and a really strong flashlight and I couldnt see any dust on my sensor.
I spent 5 hours trying to clean it, I used Sensor Swabs and Eclipse.

I just found the very first pictures I made with the camera in september 2009 and you can cleary see the dust spot.

Its on the right edge in the middle, next to the brightness slider:

I m gonna call Canon tomorrow,
I hope they can replace the sensor without any cost.

@Nicholas,
some other guy had exactly the same problem with his camera. The spots look just like mine, with the white halo arround them: http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/display/23131578 (external link)

Not really a big deal, I would just clone the spot out. I doubt Canon is going to replace your sensor because of that. If anything they will just clean it and send it back.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

super-mod Moppie had a 40D that came with dust between the filter & sensor. Canon had a look & sorted it under warranty.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I brought the camera to a canon repair facility. The technician there confirmed it. There is dust between the sensor and the AA filter glass. They ll replace the sensor.
