Outlook Express been acting up lately (no surprise there!) and wish to replace it with something better. Looking for an email program that doesn't have many bells & whistles, just the basic functions. Can you suggest / recommend any.

Thanks

I use Express Plus. I don't have the link to the site right now, I will post it when I get home,

Its not free but its not expensive either. I think it cost about $40 or something like that.

I have used Microsoft Outlook (not the express version) and it has always performed well for me. For freeware email I switched from hotmail to gmail a few months ago and it is so much faster and not as bloated as hotmail.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Hi Sheldon,

I use Outlook (the full version) at work, but I'm trying to run away from MS software :D Hotmail & Gmail are web based email sites not programs. What I'm looking for is something similar to Outlook Express but made from another company ;)

Ha ha Tommy.

subtle_spectre, been hearing about Mozilla. Do you use it, if so, do you recommend it.

What about the other program, I think it's called Eudora or something like that.

Yes. I made the switch to Firefox, a Mozilla variant, some 14 months ago and have no complaints. My web browsing is faster and I do not get streamed with Microsoft stuff.

I have used Thunderbird and find that it works well and is dependable, however, it interfaces differently than OL which I have used for years at work and home and on all laptops, so I have never made the commitment to switch over fully. That said, again, the many times I have used it it works perfectly.

I have also tried Eudora but find myself not a fan.

I switched to Firefox about the same time as you and love it too... spectre just an FYI this site, by John Haller, (external link) allows you to load a portable version of Firefox onto a flashdrive and run it from there. It comes in handy when goin to someone else's machine who doesnt have the Fox... plus it saves all your bookmarks and preferences so you dont have to redo them everytime... I like to use it here at school since they wont let me install anything... just for your consideration...

Eudora Light (www.eudora.com (external link)) is very similar to Outlook. It is "free" but the pop-up ads tend to drive one nutty. I've been good at ignoring it! I've heard good reviews about the Firefox (mentioned above) but have not found the need to switch... just yet ;-)a

I've been using Eudora since 1993. I don't think I've upgraded in a while... Hmm, the version I run was released in 1999. I think I'm 4 or 5 versions behind, but it does what I need - it handles emails.

In work I often use Pine and good old mail. Call me old-fashioned...
