Another vote for Thunderbird. If you don't like it, you've lost nothing by trying it!

I use Thunderbird as well. It works very well. I think there is something with Opera now, that is also free, I think.

Installed T-bird and it seems to work fine, but when I started Internet Explorer it asked me if I wanted it to be the default browser, I said "yes". After that T-Bird stopped working (sending/receiving).

What happened and how can I fix it :(

Thanks

Edit: I think the problem is at my end. Will contact the ISP.

The problem is you let IE take back controll :(

See if you can run T-bird useing the exe file in its installed folder.
If so run it, and find somewhere in the options that lets you turn it back to the defult browser :)
Then use Firefox, and get rid of the need for IE altogether :D

That's what puzzled me. I thought the browser & email are independent programs. Why do I have to use FF in order to use T-Bird, I'm a little confused

I don't think you need to use FF to use T-bird, as far as I know they two are independant.

However, IE and outlook are tied together, just like IE is tied into most of Windoz.
My guess is that when you installed T-bird it made itself the defult Email program, then you loaded IE and it went, "Oh, hang on, somethings not as Bill thinks it should be" and it asked to be made the Defult browser again, which, with out telling you, also made outlook the defult Email program again.

You should of course still be able to T-brid from its folder, and make it the defult again, but IE will again ask to be made defult, and you will have to say NO. It will most likely do it again of course, maybe not everytime you load it, but it will ask. Bill command is.

By useing FF and T-bird you of course get around all those problems, and you get all the benifits of having FF, with out the problems assciated with IE.

Another Firefox/Thunderbird convert here. Have tried to break the MS monopoly on my machine - don't even have Office now - I use openoffice.org - much thinner and functionally as good. I love tab browsing in Firefox.

Thanks Moppie. I think I need to establish that the mail server is working. Btw, checked and Tbird is still the default email program. Thanks again Moppie

EOSAddict, seems everybody likes FF. Will check it out.

Tab browsing, like google, is your friend.

Add the google bar, an Exif extension, downloadwith and a few other custom extensions and Firefox becomes the perfect lover.

No worries :)
Its unlikely your mail server has gone down, but an easy way to check would be load outlook :)

You are right, that's what I did, and since both don't work it means the server is down.

ahh, bugger.
Just when you think you've got something fixed, something else, beyond your control breaks, and make its impossible to find out.

Hope they get it fixed soon.

Update: the ISP says the email server is working fine. Also, checked the settings and they are fine too.

Any idea what's going on.

Thanks
