Ok, so neither outlook or T-bird working?

Since you know outlook has worked, I would remove all your existing accounts from it, and start again, checking your settings as you go.
Then, when you get that working, remove your existing t-bird install, and re-install it.
Install FF at the same time, if your keen.
When it installs it does something to IE that sort of locks it away in a cubboard where it can't cause any trouble.

One thing I have found with FF is if you get a bad install, or it dosn't update quite right you sometimes just have to re-install it.
Its much easier and less fuss than it sounds, and since both T-bird and FF are from Mozzila, and must share some similar design ideas its possible your T-bird install just needs the same thing done.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I'll try that Moppie. I'll uninstall Tbird then delete my a/c from OE and start a new one (in OE).

I'll let you know how it went.

Not much luck :(

The test of the new a/c says check if port and SSL info is correct.

Are ports (for email) automatically assigned by the ISP or the PC or XP or my neighbor :D I mean do I need to check these ports (the ISP guy wasn't concerned about them). Any ideas.

Now I know how frustrating IT surport must get sometimes, Iv had the same error when trying to get two accounts to work on outlook, and I know how to solve it, I would just need to be sitting in front of your PC to do it :)

Give me a sec, and Ill have a play with my outlook and see if I can work it out.

ok, restart your PC just to be sure, then check your firewall/antivirus etc to make sure its all running as it normaly is.

Then load outlook and click:

Tools
E-mail Accounts..
View or change..
Next

If you have any accounts in thier click once on them, and click remove.

Then again go:

Tools
E-mail Accounts..
Add a new E-mail Account...

Click next, and follow the instructions that come from your ISP, double check your server names etc.
Don't enable "This server requires a secure connection SSL"

Now useing an online email account (e.g. Yahoo) send yourself and email and see what happens.
Outlook should work.

If it dosn't, then don't worry, your changing email clients because you don't like outlook anyway, so its no great loss if it dosnt work, it just makes it a little harder to find what any problems are with T-bird, as you don't know if the problem is T-bird, your PC or your ISP.

If outlook refuses to work then just un-install your T-brid install, and re-install it.
Load and follow the directions to set up your account.
I have a feeling you might find it will work.

Thank you very much Moppie, appreciate all the effort you are putting. As for your suggestion(s) I've already done all of them :(

There is something fishy though, but not sure it's relevant. It seems XP thinks I'm in a LAN while I'm not. Just using a regular ADSL a/c.

No, thats normal, Im on ADSL, and useing the LAN connection.

I kept getting the same error, and having similar problems earlier in the year when i tried to add a second account to outlook. It didn't matter what I changed, or adjusted or double checked, it would not work.
In the end I removed all the accounts and started again, it worked imediatly :)

I have my use's

Well its midnight here, about time I did some housework before the g/fiend comes over tomorrow, hope Iv provided some sort of help, and that you get it all working.

Im sure one of the more experiances guys will be along shortly, it must be getting near that time when people are up and about on your side of the globe.

You would think that something so apprently simple as email should be pretty easy to set up. But your not the first person to have had trouble before.

Nah XP likes everybody, its just the mouse running inside thats having a little bit of a midlife crisis.

Just one, last, crazy thing to try.
If your useing Outlook, try setting up Outlook Express.
Or if your useing express, try setting up Outlook :)

I know at one point, I had one working, and one not working, despite useing identical account settings.
