I couldn't find a topic on this, so here goes:

If you guys use a different default set other than the default Lightroom settings for your cameras, what are they and why?

Not talking about color calibration, but more "I like my brightness to be at 60 for everything" sorts of things. Does anyone do this?

With the proviso that defaults are at best just starting points -

Not talking about color calibration, but more "I like my brightness to be at 60 for everything" sorts of things.

Color calibration goes hand-in-hand with the Basic settings and influences them strongly, IMO, so I have to start with that. I use Camera Neutral because it gives a gentler (more film-like) highlight roll-off. Actually I use the Invarient derivation of the Neutral DNG profile created by Nik Player http://www.nikplayer.com …ant-untwisted-camera.html (external link)
because it allows me more freedom with the Recovery slider.
On the Basic panel the top four (including Black) are zeroed, Brightness is 64 (my cameras meter low) and Contrast is 32. Clarity and Vibrance are 30.
On the Detail panel the defaults are Sharpening: 100/0.5/15/30 and NR: Luminance 3, Color 20.
The Tone Curve is off by default.

Thanks Elie, that's exactly the sort of thing that I was looking for.

Do you have any examples of the difference your settings make?

Not really, because something always gets changed. It's just a starting point that helps me see what needs to be done.

Lumaninance = 3. Wow, I guess mine is high at 25? Sharpening rarely goes above 50 for me. Good info.

Why have a higher luminance by default? If you have a well exposed shot, especially at a low ISO, then you don't want to mess up detail with high NR. And I can be forgetful about "fixing" things if it doesn't jump out and bite me!

Right, I was just curious about the effect without moving into Lightroom and tinkering with things myself (lazy ol' me :p).

And I'm with Tony - why up the luminance by default?

Oops, sorry guys. That's not my default. I left that alone at 0.
