I'm not sure if this iss the right group, but here goes!

I am leaving for Costa Rica this week! Gear includes Canon 7D, (xti as a backup) 10-22, 70-200 F4 L IS, 300 F4 L IS, 100 f2.8 L IS, 1.4x Metz af50 flash, macro Twinlite, extender tubes, monopod (for hikes) and tripod. Lots of cards, laptop and small drive for back ups, rain covers etc

Am I missing anything? Do I need all this? I am very concerned about carry on and I need my Lowpro roller and a knapsack to fit all this. Quite sure they won't let me carry both on in coach.

Any other tips for the rainforest welcome!

thanks
Nancie

Can't help with advice, but I'd love to know how you got on when you return. I'm planning on going next year and your gear list is very similar to mine, except that my 300 is the 2.8 and I'm not planning to take any macro gear (maybe some extenders for the 70-200). I'll probably leave the tripod out as well.

I think you need a 50 or 30 prime?

Why?

Both focal ranges aren't covered, and he has nothing that is faster than 2.8..

Just a though.

One camera, one lens, that is all you need. Lots of photographers made an entire career out of a 50mm lens.

So i am not just pulling this out of my butt. All I shoot is a 50 on small format and 80 on medium format, that is for everything.

Here is a link to a person like i was talking about. Henryi Cartier-Bresson (external link)

I'm pretty sure there are a ton of threads on this already. For some reason people think they need special gear for CR. Bring what you have. You might want a macro or a 50. I agree/disagree with Mark II. Depending on where you are going (East coast) be careful. Otherwise, the locals are very friendly and will be your best friend if you tip well. If I were you, I'd travel light. 1-2 lenses. It's a very rugged place. You don't want to be worring about a ton of gear. Just enjoy it.

Otherwise, my only other advice is to type Costa Rica into that new fangled search feature at the top of this page. ;)
