I just put in my order for an 85L! I can't wait to see what all the "magical" talk is about. Thanks to everyone for their input. My bank account hates you...

I am interested to see what you will stick more often on your 5DMKII .... ...
Let's hope you will come back here to say after a few weeks/months which lens got your favor.

I have quit all zooms, but I am still wondering why so many people find a zoom more versatile than an ultra fast prime with a huge range of DOF, which can autofocus virtually on any subject that an eye can see days/night/indoor/outdoor (which is not the case with any lenses over F1.8).
I am dreaming to get a 200L2.0, but 70-200L2.8ISII makes me getting some doubts .... as I have quit slow zooms (70-200F4.0 and 70-300DOIS) which where too restrictive in their uses (no low light situations, and no thin DOF to isolate a subject).

i don't like this post one bit. what are you trying to do, make him feel bad over his 50L purchase? whats with this type of comment?

i own both and love both. there's no need for a post like this to make him feel like he made a bad decision over his 50L.

they are both the cream of the crop of primes, just different FL.

OP, enjoy the 85L. its a great ADDITION to the 50L. they are both awsome lenses, you'll be very happy with them.

Congratulations!!

85L is very sharp even when compared to the 200L f/2. You won't regret it. Enjoy! :D

Tyler,

Head down to Lighthouse Camera on King St in Honolulu and rent the 85L. It's $25 a day, and you can see if you like it.

 There was nothing bad in my comment and nothing to see between 50 and 85...

I was speaking about his zoom 70-200 and 85 .. -> many people are telling a 70-200 is more versatile than a prime and particularly the 85L ..
I didn't feel like that, I was frustrated not to be able to use mine (70-200L4.0) as soon as light was insufficient, So I just would like to see if somebody else would follow same way even with a 70-200L2.8IS, that's it ..
Sorry, for my poor english, if I was mis understandable ...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a zoom is more versatile than a prime.

OP: You'll love the 85L, it's a joy to use. If you can, after some time with both the 50 and 85, give some impressions between the both in terms of practical use. I'd really like to hear which one you find more usable... I have the 85, but sometimes think the 50 would be better suited for me.

Thanks. I purchased the lens from B&H. I received the shipping confirmation this morning and looks like it will be here on Monday!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I'll love it for the reasons I bought it.

Rick, great idea, but a little too late. The 85L is on its way.

In all honesty, the only time I pulled out and used my 70-200 was to take pictures of my wife playing soccer or my brothers playing baseball. Other than that, prior to purchasing the 50L, I used the 24-70 almost exclusively. The 17-40 only came out when I knew I was going to shoot landscapes, which was/is very rare. I'm only holding onto the 17-40 just in case I need the wide end.

I'll definitely post my feelings between the two lenses once I've had the time to use both of them. So far, the 50L has really impressed me. Ever since receiving it 2 weeks ago, it hasn't come off my 5DII. :D
