I don't often view this forum but it seems that many posts in General Chat should be posted in other forums such as Talk about Photo.. EOS Cams.. and Lenses.

General Chat should be anything BUT photography related topics. This may help get better responses and advice.

Take a look at this:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7

" General chat -
An area for subjects not appropriate for the other forums. Keep it related in some way to photography even if only in the abstract. Political and religious discussions are absolutely prohibited."

Maybe that's why many decide to post their lens or camera related questions here ... :p

Best regards,
Andy

What I am trying to say is that many posts put in the general chat should be in the camera or lens forum because that is where everyone else asks questions or ask for advice and that they might get "lost" in the general chat forum.

FWIW the posts in this area tend to be a lot less snippy and there seems to be more real discussion. Even the mods are better behaved in this area of the board.
