Shot with my 300 2.8 + 2x tc.

Cloudy day and I'm still trying to feel the whole 2x out. I may be buying a 500 sooner than later. Thoughts?

Stunning shot! Fabulous work! I too will someday add a 500 f4 but it will probably be a while longer before the bank account allows!

Thanks everyone. Some more time learning the 2x converter hopefully will prove worthy of just waiting longer for the 500mm. I just want to take my photography to the next level and I have low patience for sub par gear :p

You own the 300mm f2.8 IS; there is nothing wrong with your gear!!

nice shot for poor weather! I have the 300 as well and don't use the 2TC at all - keep us posted with more pics and your thoughts... Cheers!

Great shot! I doubt you would have done much bettter with a 500 (or 500 with TC) considering the light. The 300 and 500 are both optical freaks!

Use it in good health and relish the fact that when the moment presents and you are quickly raising the barrel to shoot...your buddy who is lugging the 500 is struggling to unshoulder his rig.

Saturday I followed a pileated woodpecker for an hour in knee deep snow with a tripod mounted 500. I would have killed for some of your hand-holdable fire power!
