took a break from my normal sports photography to shoot a Rock Band last night
the Band was called Waysted and feature the bass player from well known hard rock band UFO, Pete Way.
The light in the small venue was "terrible" even for concert standards
5 spots in total all with red filters apart from 1 green light
I was forced to shoot ISO 3200 with my 20D using the 50mm 1.8 Lens I tried to shoot Tv mode with the shutter at 1/125 to freeze things but was forced to cut the shutter to 1/80 to keep the aperture at around 2-2.8 as I was so close
the 50mm was a bit tight and I couldnt move back anywhere
but it was fun and all part of the learning process

Oh, Lordy, everyone's got an opinion, saggy ... some just aren't worth as much as others! :-) I am very impressed with these, especially the first two, but I like them all. I am fortunate as I shoot Live Performance with some of the best stage lighting in the world at the Chumash Casino Resort, but as Angus [Rockslut] and Steve Parr prove over and over, there is as much "art" to these shoots as technical perfection. Oh, and I always like color better ... almost!

I like how the light works in the black and white pictures.

Nice series! I like the high contrast BW pictures, the last one would look great when printed on a black shirt.

I would've liked to have seen some wider shots.

Other than that, they look pretty good...

Oh man, I dig that little lens, too.

When I shoot, I try to be as mobile as possible, for a few reasons. First, it makes for a variety of shots. Some are close, some are wide. Secondly, I'm not limited by the focal length of the lens. The 28mm does a great job, but so does the 85mm. If moving about isn't an option, I'd say wide is better.

As for the lens, I picked mine up, used, for $250.00. They're out there...
