IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/28acrRD How do you get these shots? Did you follow this guy till he passed by stripes in the background? Or are you phenomenally fortunate? It's very cool. But I'm really intrigued by how you do this kind of thing so consistently. Laura in Connecticut

Did you follow this guy till he passed by stripes in the background? Or are you phenomenally fortunate? It's very cool. But I'm really intrigued by how you do this kind of thing so consistently. I'd noticed the stripy background some weeks before, and started looking for suitable subjects for the foreground. I found this one first: And then, almost a month later, I was in the same location, and who should come walking towards me? Yup, the guy with the stripy face. He's a street performer I'd seen around in central London before. No idea what his act is, as he always seems to be on his way somewhere else. But now I'm more aware of that background I might go for the 'hat trick' third shot, if I can find another suitable subject. As for consistency, for me it's just about staying in the moment, moving from one place to another and then staying there for a while, and looking all around. And if I notice an unusual background, or the name of a shop or the wording on a poster and so on, I spend some time thinking about what kind of subject would be perfect for that location. A simple example of that would be this one, where I knew the light display of the walking girl with a pony tail had been for a couple of years, so it was just a matter of waiting there until she walked past. It only took about 20 minutes. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/26t1UgH I miss quite a few shots, though. I've lost count of the number of possibilities in central London where I've brought the camera up to get one of "the good ones" only to have someone step in front of the camera just as I click.
