I was actually photographing the wall with its texture and the little patches of light, but then these two ladies of different generations walked into frame, and since I was set up anyway ...

thanks The shutter speed was 1/30, but the degree of the blurriness also has a lot to do with how close the subject is to you, so had he been further away, I don't think the background would have been this blurry.

For example, like this picture, the skater was further away, roughly about the same shutter speed (1/25), and you can tell the background was a little less blurry
