Whales off Maui

In Maui and went on a whale watching trip yesterday.. I was shooting with the 7D 100-400.. my wifes s95 battery died so she asked me to set the 5D II to auto.. and she gets the pic that everybody is talking about..

Awesome! We were there almost a year ago but missed the whale season. How many did you end up seeing? How many breaching?

Probably saw 30 or 40 whales.. 2 babies that just kept breaching... The one mother that breached and a handful of adult males breaching and tail slapping and doing these half body slams.. The breaching photos are really a matter of luck as they just happen randomly in random places.. We can see them breaching from our condo in Kahana throughout the day but they are in the distance...

Wonderful!!! We will be there in April but I know many of the whales are headed back to Alaska around that time so I am not going to hold my breath.


Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
