I've done some google searches and forum searches but I haven't found an answer. I have a 30D and I want to get an intervalometer and try making some time lapse movies. Will any size CF work in a 30D? I vaguely recall reading that there is a size limit but I can't find anything to confirm that. I'd like to get a 16gb card if it will format in the camera.

Did you try Google, using all the words "30D memory maximum"?

Doing so found a reply by one of POTN's own moderators https://photography-on-the.net …php?p=6471876&postcount=5

On http://www.istockphoto.com …php?threadid=90561&page=2 (external link) I found another reply " It says that the camera can handle 32GB if the card was formatted in a computer using FAT32, but it does only recognize 8GB if formatted in camera. Seems like Roger was right."

Lastly again on http://www.istockphoto.com …php?threadid=90561&page=2 (external link), found another reply " In order to use a 32GB card in a Canon EOS 30D you have to format it in a PC using FAT32. If formatted in camera only 8GB will be recognized."

Wilt, thanks for the help. As with all searches, success is using the right keywords. I googled "Canon 30D compact flash" and then added variations using the words maximum, size, limit, etc. None of those gave me anything about what I needed to know.

I was following this thread earlier and came home and inserted a 16Gb Sandisk Extreme Pro CF card into my 30D. I reformatted the card at 14.9GB no problems. It was previously in a 50D (formatted at 14.8 GB) so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. So the 8GB limit in two replies above does not seem to hold. Firmware on the 30D is 1.0.6.

Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?" ???

I just tossed one of my Transcend 64G 400X cards into my 30D and it formats to 59.6G
and I snapped a couple pictues without any problem. I don't see any problems.
