I know this probably isn't a new topic, but I'm trying to figure out how much I should ask for when I try to sell my urban prints or find someone who is interested in purchasing some prints. I've had numbers thrown at me from colleagues and friends who are also in the business, but I want to expand the group from which I get my info. If anybody has an idea of a price, it would be greatly appreciated.

Size? (Larger generally = More $$$)
Effort Involved in shooting the image? (Did you incur expenses that need to be recouped or was it a happy accident that started out as just a "grab shot" from a cab or bus?)
Amount you paid for the prints? (How much markup can your market bear? NYC? Probably a goodly amount...)
Buyer? Are they specialty shots that only a very small percentage of buyers would like or is there a wider audience? You can often ding a very focused clientele for a bit more money.

It really depends on a lot of things (as Jay pointed out). I'm guessing that you mean "fine art" type prints? I'm no where near a fine art expert but I think the three biggest factors that are going to determine how much to charge for a print, the overhead cost of creating the print and framing, the uniqueness and appeal of the actual photograph and how well you're known. I'm assuming that you're not a well known artist considering you're asking this question so you can pretty much forget that one for now. So....I guess the first question is, how much money and time are you looking to invest to create your print? That will be your break even point....after that, how much more of a premium to you think the print can generate due to its unique and attractive qualities? I guess that one may take a little trial and error and isn't so easily quantifiable. In many cases, you may find it difficult to just hit your break even point.
