This young fellow was making the most of the small waves at a beach in northern Philippines a couple of days ago. He stands less than 5 feet tall and probably weighs south of a hundred pounds. But his skills with his tiny board is amazing.

All taken with the 1D4 + 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC, 475B tripod/516 fluid head, manual exposure, EXIF intact (San Juan, La Union province, Philippines, Feb. 19, 2011).

Fantastic! This little fellow reminds me of my brother... I wanna try shooting some kite surfers when the temperatures go up again. How close did you get to your subject?

I was perhaps 60 - 80 meters away, these are roughly 9 MP crops as posted. The 1D4 + 700 mm was just the right reach for this situation.... I actually mounted a 7D on the 500 f4 + 1.4x but the combo was too long.

Here are some clips of the kid that I managed to get. :)
