A good friend yesterday bought 550D and wants to use it with an old lens he has, Sigma 70-300mm DL f:4.5 - 5.6. I doubt it but thought it wise to ask around here. I suspect this is a lens for non-digital cameras.

a) Can it be used on a 550D?
b) What lens mount is needed (will a DG-mount do the trick)?

Plenty of thanks in advance, tough I think the outcome is negative for my friend.

As long as the lens has a Canon EF/EOS mount, it can be used on a Canon 550D/T2i - or any other Canon DSLR.

I believe the Sigma 70-300mm DL may be one of those old film-era Sigmas that are incompatible with Canon DSLRs and cause errors when you try and stop the lens down.

I just picked up this lens in a Nikon mount and tried it with a Nikon to EOS adapter...no AF of course but its manual focusing barrel, to my surprise, is pretty smooth...and here's the manditory duck shot (mallards I guess) with 100% crops for the fun of it...shot stopped down a couple of stops with my 30D
