Canon 580EX Master\Slave Questions

I'm playing around with using my 580EX II and my 580EX as a master\slave combination for the first time and have a few questions:

1. The slave fires after the master. The further away I am from the slave, the longer it takes to fire. This is normal because the light takes longer to reach the slave, correct? Does this cause any problems that I should be aware of? Like maybe do the subjects see the first flash and think the image is done before the second flash fires?

2. My plan is to use the 580EX as the master on the camera as fill and the 580EXII as the main light off the camera angled at the subject. Any difference between using the 580EX or the 580EX II as the slave or master?

3. The fill flash on the camera should be dialed down 1.75 to 2 stops less than the main flash, correct?

4. How would using remote flash triggers alter the master\slave settings on the camera?

5. If I wanted to use ETTL with remote flash triggers, the flash triggers would have to be capable of passing on ETTL information to the flash, correct? Are there any on the market that do this?

Take a deep breath and relax, if you stay with it you'll get the hang of it.

1) How are you triggering the flashes when you see this behaviour? Are you using the Test button? They shouldn't be doing this when the flashes are triggered normally by pressing the shutter button to take a picture.

2) No, other than the fact that it's easier to switch the 580EX in and out of master mode.

3) You can use any ratio that gives you the result you're looking for. But those are good starting points.

4) What are the remoter flash triggers connected to?

5) Pocket Wizard and Radio Poppes are two brands I know of that make E-TTL capable RF remotes.
