Are you just looking for alternatives to web-based mail services (hotmail, gmail, etc)?

For my personal email, I use Thunderbird; which is Mozilla's open-source client to compete with Outlook. I've rather enjoyed it, and have been using it for 3 years or so, now.

I use an email account via my ISP which is Cox Communications.

It works locally via Outlook or it can also be accessed as webmail.

I looking to change/add my email address for a couple of reasons.
1. Some sites/forums do not let you register with a web-based mail service.
2. I have been told many times that it looks more professional to not use a gmail, yahoo, etc as your main business email.
I will just have which ever host forward it to my gmail.

BTW, I use go-daddy to host my site if that makes a difference.

Sorry don't use (or know) go-daddy but if they are like any other hosting company they should offer an email setup as part of your hosting. That way you will have an email specific to you website e.g. info@yourdomain.com (external link)

I use Google for my domain - and have my rt2photo.com email address pulled down by my main gmail account.

That way, I get to use gmail (which imho is the best client out there), but can pick from either my gmail.com account or my rt2photo.com account, and they are both delivered to the same place.

It's free

I second the Google apps recommendation.
I bought a domain, configured gmail to use it, put it on my android phone as another account, and also set up google voice so I could give out a different phone number than my personal number,
in about an hour.
All it cost was the domain registration.

Otherwise Godaddy has fairly cheap email hosting as well, but Google gives you all the instructions to set it up on your existing Godaddy purchased domain.

If that's all you're trying to do, then just make a mail forwarder at GoDaddy to forward mail from your domain over to your gmail. Easy enough to do, it doesn't sound like you actually want a mail client other than gmail's interface anyway?

I also use Go Daddy. My business mail goes to my own domain as hosted by Go Daddy. In Go Daddy, you can have that directed to your personal address. You can also have it screened, racked, and stacked by Go Daddy before being forewarded to you. The Go Daddy user interface is pretty cluttered, but go through the email links and you'll find the tools.

As others have pointed out, you can use gmail while still having real email with other domains. I used to use Thunderbird, but a little over a year ago I made the switch to Gmail and I should have done it years ago.

I run a few businesses and gmail is my central email client for everything. As of now I have 14 individual email addresses across 6 different domains working in gmail. The actual gmail email account is nothing more than what I use to login to various google services and the occasional personal email for family or what have you.

I have email through GoDaddy that I forward to my Gmail account. You can also set up your Gmail to send emails as though they are being sent from your Business email.
